RIM’s latest BlackBerry handset combines the firms two product lines into one device. The Torch has a 3.2-inch 480×360 touchscreen previously found only on the Storm handsets up front with a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out the bottom. Inside is a quad-band GSM radio along with 4GB of internal storage backed-up by a 4GB microSD card. But that’s only half the fun.
The Torch is the first handset to run the just-announced BlackBerry 6 OS, which is among other things is RIM’s answer to the Android explosion. It packs a new media sync along with revamped social media apps and over all look. Longtime BlackBerry users will probably appreciate the WebKit browser the most though. Hopefully it brings the same sort of browsing experience to the platform that iPhone and Android users have long enjoyed.
Expect the Torch to hit AT&T retailers August 12 for $199 with a two-year service plan.
