Hands-On With The Surprisingly Solid, QWERTY Keyboard-Packing LG Mach

mach2

Sprint finally joined the phone announcement fray earlier this morning and added a handful of new devices to its official roster. While LG’s Optimus G may garner all the love, the newly-revealed LG Mach deserves its share of attention, and I got a bit of hands-on time to do just that. → Read More

Sprint’s LG Optimus G Has A Better Camera Than AT&T’s – Here’s How It Performs Hands-On

DSC00231

Sprint is going to be offering LG’s new Optimus G this fall. The smartphone is LG’s flagship Android device, and has the specs to own that role, with a Quad-Core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Processor and 4.7-inch1280 x 768 pixel display. Back in September, Chris went hands-on with the international version, and today at CTIA MobileCon we took the Sprint version for a spin. → Read More

Here’s The Upcoming Nexus Superphone Made By LG

user2804463_pic28572_1349644969

The next Nexus phone is not official yet, but a ton of pics of the phone have leaked, providing a clear look at the upcoming superphone. But let’s hope it has a different name than rumors suggest.

The upcoming Nexus is made by LG and reportedly carries the model number of E960. It runs Amdroid 4.1.2 and ships unlocked, allowing the GSM phone to run on both AT&T and T-Mobile in the US. It… → Read More

T-Mobile Will Launch LG’s Ice Cream Sandwich-Powered Optimus L9 “This Fall”

optimusl9

AT&T and Sprint have already laid claim to LG’s flagship Optimus G handset, but what of the rest of the Big 4 national carriers? Verizon has been keeping awfully quiet on the subject — maybe because it’s still trying to push LG’s curious Intuition phablet — and for now it seems T-Mobile is making do with another, less illustrious Korean handset.

The carrier has just announced that it will… → Read More

LG’s First Nexus-Branded Smartphone Reportedly Set For A Late October Unveiling

Mockup courtesy of AndroidAndMe

There’s been no shortage of LG Nexus phone rumors these past few days, but it seems the time for speculation may have come to an abrupt end. CNET has apparently confirmed with sources close to the matter that Google’s next Nexus smartphone will indeed be based on LG’s new Optimus G handset, and is slated to be officially revealed at the end of this month. → Read More

LG’s Flagship Optimus G Slated To Hit AT&T And Sprint Shelves Later This Year

optimusg

LG’s last big (and I mean big) smartphone release around these parts was the Intuition, a funky phablet that many a critic panned. Thankfully, the company’s straight-laced follow-up — the nicely spec’d Optimus G — was revealed earlier this month, and now both AT&T and Sprint have signed on to sell the thing when it launches later this year. → Read More

LG’s Quad-Core Flagship Optimus G To Make U.S. Debut In Q4, We Go Hands-On

opg-1

LG’s new top-tier Optimus G certainly looks like a contender on paper — its 4.7-inch HD IPS display, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera, and LTE support make sure of that — but one thing the company hasn’t been willing to talk about so far is U.S. availability.

But it seems the company has just become just a bit more chatty. At a small press event… → Read More

LG’s Q2 2012 Earnings: $138M In Net Profits, Up 46% YOY, Phone Sales Still Lagging

LG headquarters

LG has been turning a corner of late, getting its mobile division out of a six-quarter-long rut.

Today’s Q2 report outlines a 46 percent increase in net profits year-over-year at $138 million, though phone sales continue to be an obstacle.

Overall revenues went up from last quarter, but are still down from a year ago. The handset division in particular had an operating loss of $49.5… → Read More

LG To Pull Away From Windows Phone’s Loving Embrace, Refocus On Android

LG-logo

Sure, Windows Phone is still but a baby alongside Android and iOS, but the platform shows promise. Woz likes it. And the fact that it’s backed by hardware partners like Samsung and Nokia says good things, as well.

But it would seem that LG, coming off of a few quarters in the red, has decided to back away from the platform.

LG reportedly told the Korea Herald that the company would be… → Read More

Sprint Goes Green (Yet Again) With The Eco-Conscious LG Optimus Elite

LG_Optimus_Elite_Indy_LN696_white_GVR

Well, Sprint certainly seems hell-bent on making this Earth Day one to remember. Not only have they decided to launch the LTE-friendly LG Viper and Galaxy Nexus on April 22, Sprint has announced that they have chosen that same day to release the new eco-friendly LG Optimus Elite.

Unlike the flashier handsets launching alongside it, the Optimus Elite is unlikely to turn too many heads. It’s a… → Read More

No LTE, No Problem: Sprint’s $100 LG Viper Goes Up For Pre-Order On April 12

Sprint still hasn’t launched their new LTE network yet, but if a new announcement about a LTE-capable handsey is any indication, they’re getting pretty close. Though the existence of a Sprint-bound Galaxy Nexus probably overshadowed it a bit, Sprint has announced that LG’s eco-friendly Viper handset will be available for pre-order beginning on April 12 with a release soon to follow. → Read More

LGSpectrumReview:ThisIsOneUglySumbitch

The LG Spectrum has spent a long while with me. In fact, LG’s asking for it back, saying that my review period has come to an end. I didn’t get around to the full review until now because (to be perfectly honest with you) I didn’t really want to sit down and talk about the LG Spectrum for X amount of hours.

True, there’s nothing necessarily “wrong” with the phone. It’s got solid specs… → Read More

Verizon LG Lucid 4G Spec Sheet Leaked, Elicits A Resounding ‘Meh’

LG-Lucid

I’m personally waiting for some of LG’s, shall we say, more ambitious handsets to make to their way to our shores, but until that happens, we’ll have to make do with devices like the LG Lucid 4G.

This Verizon-bound handset was first spotted a few weeks back a long with an unconfirmed list of specs, but a newly-leaked LG document has confirmed the goodies to come nestled in the mid-range… → Read More

LG Spectrum Review: Head-To-Head With The Nitro HD And Galaxy Nexus

Spectrum head to head

The LG Spectrum isn’t necessarily my favorite phone. It’s got pretty nice specs and a killer screen, but there’s something to be said about the way a phone draws you in from across the room. I don’t mean to get all romantic or dramatic about it, but it’s still true: appearance matters. Windows Phones have that engaging, compelling live tile interface. The iPhone has its stunning design and piano… → Read More

Samsung, LG, Korean Carriers Fined For Mobile Price Fixing Scheme

What happens when Korea’s biggest wireless carriers and Korea’s biggest phone manufacturers get caught offering bogus wireless phone deals to their customers? Well, according to the Yonhap News Agency, Korea’s Fair Trade Commission gets pissed off and slaps those companies with a huge fine — 45.3 billion won ($40.2 million) — for “price fixing and consumer fraud.”

Fly Or Die: The LG Spectrum

The Spectrum has been a busy little diva the last few days, strutting in and out of our NYC studio like she belongs there. So much in fact, that I’ve given her a gender and started to refer to her in gender-specific pronouns. A scary thought, to say the least.

Matt seems less perturbed by her presence, though I was (and still am) more than willing to duke it out with him over the value of this… → Read More

LG Spectrum Review: Initial Impressions (Video)

Let me just start by saying that so far, I’m not a fan. But, these are just initial impressions so we’ll see how my relationship with the Spectrum progresses over time.

Sure, the LG Spectrum has a stunning 4.5-inch 720p display, Verizon 4G LTE, and all the innards of what could be a great smartphone. But so far I’m not ready to call it a great smartphone. → Read More

LG’s Hefty Optimus Vu Released In Korea, World Tour To Follow?

Remember LG’s squarish, Gingerbread-powered Optimus Vu smartphone? The Korean company’s new handful debuted at this year’s Mobile World Congress, and thanks to its… ahem… unique industrial design, it turned its share of heads on the show floor.

Hands-On With LG’s (Huge) Optimus Vu

onedayleft-1024x503

In the world of mobile handsets, LG has been steadily losing market share to companies like Apple and ZTE in their collective march to catch up to market leaders Nokia and Samsung. But in the world of Twitter, LG is apparently winning.

Android Smartphone Round-Up: December/January Edition

We took a break from the Android round-up in December because, well, to be honest I was on vacation. But January gave us a few extra smartphones and the holidays are over, so we’re back. LG’s Quad-Core 2012 Flagship Leaks: The Poorly Code-Named X3

In fact, Pocketnow reports that LG’s 2012 flagship will run a Tegra 3 quad-core chipset and go by the name X3, at least for now. The phone likely won’t show up on store shelves until spring or summer, but we should hear an… → Read More

Hands-On With The LG Spectrum: So Last Year

Here at CES 2012, phones are a bit in short supply. At least, new phones are. LG is one of the few companies to officially announce a new smartphone at the show, and I have to say it’s one of the best phones we’ve seen out of LG. Unfortunately, that still leaves the Spectrum quite a ways behind some of the other new phones we’ve seen recently like the Xperia S, Titan 2, or the Galaxy Nexus (of… → Read More
