Unless you’re plagued with serious night terrors, waking up is one of the hardest parts of the day. But what if your rise and shine moment was turned into a game that let you compete against your friends? Let me tell you, it wouldn’t fix the problem entirely, but it would make the process a little less painless. That’s what Wake N Shake aims to do.

The app originally launched as the “merciless” alarm clock, with no snooze button and no relief until you shake the crap out of your iPhone. But a recent update has added the ability to make waking up social, and gamified even.

Now, users can connect with Facebook and wake up alongside their friends. You can see if you’re getting up earlier than your coworkers, later than your BFF who works as a freelancer, or at the same time as your lover. You still have to shake the phone to shut up the alarm, but now you at least have the comfort of your friends during that very rough emotional time.

The app also lets you win up to 50 different achievements, ranging from a simple quick wake up to more disciplined actions. In either case, it could be a good fix for the late waker.

The app is on sale in the App Store for $.99 (usually $1.99) and is available on Google Play for $1.
