Designed and marketed by Apple Inc., iPad is a line of tablet devices that run Apple’s iOS. the first iPad was released in April 2010, and it has been followed by a range of different models including the iPad Air and the second generation iPad Mini (released to the public in November 2013).
The user interface is built around the device’s multi-touch screen. The iPad includes a virtual keyboard, built-in Wi-Fi, and on some models, cellular connectivity. iPads can shoot video footage, take photos, play music, and perform Internet functions like web-browsing and emailing. Other functions — like games, references, GPS navigation, and social networking — can be enabled by downloading and installing the relevant apps.
The first-generation iPad established design standards, including the 9.7-inch screen size and button placement. Updates to the original iPad have added and improved on these functions, with features like Retina Display, FaceTime video-calling, voice dictation, Siri, and a 5-megapixel camera.
