Founded in 2011 by Bastian Lehmann, Sam Street and Sean Plaice, Postmates is a logistics company that operates a network of couriers who deliver goods locally. Postmates brands itself as anti-Amazon and aims to help small businesses improve delivery times to consumers. Like Uber, Postmates uses mobile phones to receive orders and dispatch delivery drives. In December 2014, Postmates opened an application programming interface to allow small businesses to compete for speedy delivery of consumer goods with larger companies like Amazon.
