Steve Ballmer is an American businessman. In 1980, he joined Microsoft as a business manager, becoming the company’s 30th employee.
Ballmer headed various divisions during his tenure at Microsoft, including operations, operating systems development, and sales and support. In February 1992, he became executive vice president of sales and support, and in July 1998, he became president before later replacing Gates as CEO in 2000. Satya Nadella replaced Ballmer as CEO in 2014.
In August 2014, Ballmer resigned from Microsoft’s Board of Directors, citing his outside commitments, including his ownership of the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, which he purchased in May 2014 for $2 billion; he became the team’s official owner in August 2014. As of 2014, his personal wealth was estimated to be $20.7 billion.
