Console wars are a complex and many-parted affair, and Sony has launched its full salvo, with all eyes now on Microsoft to see what kind of return shot they can manage. Maybe The PS4 Isn’t So Bad After All

Image (1) 1-playstation-3-sonyjpg.jpeg for post 78143

Although I, like many of you, suffered through Sony’s interminable and boring press conference last night, I came away less concerned about the PlayStation’s future as a platform. What I saw, in short, was a company that has finally embraced the network to a degree that forces its competitors to play catch-up and, barring a horrible blunder on Sony’s part, could guarantee some modicum of success… → Read More

Sony had an event today and as expected, it introduced the PlayStation 4. The next-gen platform is designed to shift focus from the living room to the gamer, Sony said, and overall, PlayStation’s approach is meant to make it possible for gamers to play wherever they want, whenever they want. Home video game consoles seem somewhat quaint at this point, and it’s not an issue of graphics capabilities or raw power, on which scales they both still beat out mobile devices. ‘More power’ will likely be the clarion call of the next generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft, and new details leaked around Microsoft’s Xbox 360 successor, codenamed Durango, suggest they’ll have specs to boast… → Read More

Supply Line Sources Say PS4 Coming In 2012

Taiwanese daily Digitimes is reporting that Sony is planning a PS4 launch for 2012, based on manufacturers’ claims. Foxconn and Pegatron are supposedly to assemble the systems in late 2011. Digitimes usually has its finger on the pulse when it comes to this sort of thing, but I can’t help feeling there may be some misinterpretation here. → Read More

Next Version of the PlayStation Here in 18 Months?

The PS3′s not even done tanking yet and Sony already has designs on a PS4 of sorts, here within the next 18 months. The always credible Smarthouse Web site says that Sony will take the innards of the PS3 and stick them into a gray box, making the next system, if you can call it that, more geared toward home entertainment use than the PS3 proper. Not that the PS3 has many good games for it as… → Read More
