Masaya Maeda, Canon’s head of the Image Communication Products, shared more than just sales numbers in an interview today. On the question of whether Canon was going to be attempting to compete with smaller mirrorless (so-called EVIL) cameras like those using the M4/3 system, he had this to say:

I heard about this a little while back when they had just wrapped. Let’s be honest: scanning has become a necessary evil. But as long as you’re doing what has to be done, you may as well do it right. I got decent results scanning 35mm film with an old bargain scanner, but if you’re planning on re-printing them (or re-printing prints, or what have you), you want the highest resolution possible. Some very dedicated Canon lover (and DIYer) has put the guts from a modern Canon digital into the a hollowed-out AE-1, one of the wonderful old metal bodies from the early 80s. The 5D mk II 2.0.3 firmware was supposed to be the end-all solution for the Canon super camera. But it wasn’t. It caused more issues not worth the enhanced movie mode it added. Canon of course of pulled the firmware from its site cause many 5D mk II owners to cry a little. Because, as everyone knows, Canon owners are notoriously emotional unlike the cool and collected Nikon crowd. But chin up 5D mk II owners, the proper firmware is now available. → Read More
Well, looks like that Canon 5D mk II update that was released a couple days ago has itself a couple faults. Seems that if you set sound recording to manual while using a C* dial setting, then turn the camera off, it’ll render your camera unable to record audio at all.
