I don’t care that I already have an all black K2000, I want the limited edition all white DSLR. As a reminder, the white K2000 comes with a DA-L 18-55mm lens and DA-L 50-200mm lens. All that can be yours for $680. Want. Bad. → Read More

CrunchDeals: Pentax slashes prices on DSLR kits

For a short period of time this month Pentax is offering an in-store rebate of $100 towards the purchase of various kits. This promotion actually started on the 1st of the month and runs till the 22nd, so you better act quickly. Based on the press release it only looks like this offer applies to the K2000, which happens to be a fine entry-level and backup SLR. I’ve been using one for the last… → Read More

Pre-sale begins for 'Stormtrooper' Pentax K2000 DSLR

Last month, Pentax announced that a limited run of white K2000s would be coming and they’re now up for pre-order on Pentax’s online store. It won’t actually ship until mid-February, but I’m told it’s going to be a small batch so I’d jump on this if I were you. Assuming you’re in the market for a new DSLR.

For $679.95 you’ll get the following: → Read More

    Pentax's albino K2000 looks like a Stormtroopercam

The same aesthetic that works for Canon’s L-series and Rocky Road ice cream seems to be doing all right for Pentax as well. The K2000 is a solid camera, and this unique look could take a few people off the fence. The real question (if you care so much about how your camera looks, you poseur) is how non-black-and-white lenses will look on it. Pentaxes are great because there’s a huge… → Read More

Rumor: New Pentax K20D to have GPS

A Greek camera site has set the world afire with rumors of Pentax’s new K20Ds being equipped with GPS units. Observe: Πλέον στην έκδοση κιτ K20D + GPS Tracker είναι η τέλεια DSLR της αγοράς για όσους ταξιδεύουν! Nothing could be clearer! As the K20D is already weather-resistant, a GPS unit would make it that much more attractive to… → Read More

Pentax discontinues the K200D in Japan

That was quick. Having only lasted in the market for nine months, Pentax has discontinued their K200D DSLR in Japan. Whether or not that will trickle down to the US remains to be seen (we’ve inquired about it) and leaves the Pentax lineup with only two models, the K2000 and K20D. Will Pentax announce the K300 at the PMA show early next year or will they take their time and reassess the… → Read More

Specs for upcoming Pentax DSLR leaked

PMA is a good five months away but that doesn’t mean the rumor mill won’t start churning its filth this early. According to Chinese forum DCHome.net, the specs for the Pentax K20D successor have been leaked. They seem pretty generic and nothing we wouldn’t expect. → Read More

CrunchDeals: AMEX rewards programs giving away Pentax, Nikon and Sony DSLR camera goodies

I don’t understand the equivalent of these AMEX points to real money, but if you’re looking to upgrade from your crummy point and shoot and you have some extra points then now is the time. I’d suggest going with either Pentax over the Nikon D60 because the feature set on both kick the crap out of the Nikon. The K10D may be older, but it’s prime choice of the bunch. Check… → Read More

First hands-on with the Pentax K2000, K-m DSLR

There it is, sports fans, the K2000 aka K-m. It’s a small, lightweight true entry-level DSLR from Pentax. A lot of folks over at dpreview and other forums weren’t so sure the K2000 was small enough or lightweight enough, but I can tell you that it’s significantly smaller and lighter (20.8 ounces) than the K200D (24.3 ounces). The controls are well placed and the camera can be… → Read More

Pentax announces entry-level DSLR, K2000 aka K-m at Photokina

The K-m was “leaked” several days ago and today at Photokina, Pentax officially announced the K-m aka K2000 (here in the US) DSLR. Most of the specs that were “leaked” are spot on and nothing much differs from the official announcement. What the leaks failed to mention was the bump in ISO to 3200, but a weaker AF with five points as opposed to the 11 you’ll find on… → Read More

    Spotted: Pentax BobCar in NYC

Over the weekend I spotted this little BobCar from Pentax in Union Square and decided to see what it was all about being the Pentax guy that I am. The BobCar was really neat because it allowed anyone to just roll up and test out any of the cameras that were on hand. This is a much better solution than having potential buyers test them out in-store. The lighting is horrible and they’re… → Read More

    Back to School: Cameras

So this is your first year of real independence and trust me, you’ll want to document every possible thing. That’s probably one thing I failed to do during my collegiate days. Girls making out and possibly showing you their hooha’s are something you’ll want to hold onto while at college. You never know when you’re going to need to blackmail said hooha to get test answers. And I know some… → Read More

Pentax introduces two inexpensive 10 megapixel digital cameras

The camera’s main selling point is the price: It will not cost more than $140 in the USA. It seems Americans will get a trimmed-down version. Pentax goes wide, long with new lens

I’m a Pentax fan and this new lens has me reaching for my wallet. I generally use my 50mm and 28mm lenses these days and leave the kit lens, 18-55mm, at home. It’s not a bad lens, but my 50mm is sharper and faster. The 28mm is great as well, but it’s MF and I haven’t really had the time to learn how to meter down with it. Anyway, the 17-70mm f/4 lens equates to a 26mm wide angle to 107mm… → Read More

Pentax's Optio W60 loves water and dust, also takes pretty pictures

Now here is a point-and-shoot I might actually want to have around. My Rebel XT has served me fine for a couple years now, but I’d be wary of taking it whitewater rafting. This Pentax, however, will go 13 feet under the waves for a couple hours and be none the wetter inside. It’s sealed against dust and dirt as well as water, and will operate down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a 5x… → Read More

Those of you who fancy point-and-shoots, listen up! The Pentax Optio V20 is on the way, further complicating your “what digital camera should I buy?” predicament. A quick scan reveals the V20 to be fairly capable. For… → Read More

Samsung designing full-frame CMOS sensor for Pentax, Samsung DLSRs

Photo of the GX-20 Barney Britton of Amateur Photographer is reporting out of Seoul, Korea that Samsung is actively working on the development of a full-frame CMOS sensor to be implemented into DSLRs. This is amazing for two reasons: 1) A full-frame sensor is what, I think, old-school film photographers are waiting for so they can switch to digital 2) It will be a Pentax lens mount, which means my… → Read More

Hands on with the Pentax K200D DSLR

Being a Pentax man I’ve been looking forward to the arrival of the K200D since I first saw it at CES. I was completely blown away by the new features and UI, but my time with it was limited so I didn’t get an exact feel for it then. Pentax lets loose a new Optio point-and-shoot

Today marks the arrival of yet another point-and-shoot from Pentax. The Optio V20, is like the sixth in the last few months, that features a 5x zoom lens, 8-megapixels and a ginormous 3-inch LCD. It appears to be geared towards portraits thanks to three key features: face recognition, smile capture and blink detection. I think you can decipher what each does and see its value in taking portraits. → Read More

Samsung's GX-20 announced today as flagship DSLR

[photopress:GX20__4__3_.jpg,full,center]At CES, I was very impressed by Samsung’s GX-10 DSLR. Samsung has partnered with Pentax for the first line of DSLRs, basically re-branding the Pentaxes with a little cosmetic differences.
