Bethesda: DRM on Fallout 3 will be "mild"

In an informative interview with Shack News, Bethesda developer Pete Hines talked about the hotly anticipated game, addressing piracy, platform differences, and so on. Most refreshingly, he said that Bethesda would not be party to the draconian DRM schemes others were trying out; there will be no install limit and probably just a traditional CD-key security system. They also say they’ve done a better job at localizing the PC version than with Oblivion, which is good news, as the most popular mod for Oblivion (BTmod) was the one that corrected the console-ish looks. At the end there was a little stinger about DLC being released for 360 and PC at once. That’s good, but it also makes me think they’ve already got DLC coming down the pipe before the game is done, which I have objected to before. Anyway, this isn’t a place for me to air my petty grievances. This game is going to be great, it’s a multi-platform release done right (hopefully), and I’m going to be buying it day one. → Read More

Fallout 3 acheivements now online

The full list of achievements for Fallout 3 is now online. There’s 50 of ‘em worth 1,000 points, so nothing out of the ordinary. One of them is called “You Gotta Shoot ‘Em in the Head,” so don’t tell Jack Thompson about it. → Read More

PAX 2008: Fallout 3 hands-on

They told us to stop filming but we’re naughty and we’re putting it up anyway. It’s a public convention and this is a public build that most people have already seen the demo of anyway, right? No harm, no foul. This is the same demo they showed me at E3 (same build, even) and the demo videos are good, but we thought you might want a little idiotic commentary to help wash down the postapocalyptic angst. → Read More

Bethesda announces launch date for Fallout 3

Some how this managed to fall through the cracks yesterday, so our sincerest apologies. Bethesda revealed to the world that Fallout 3 would be available in North America on the 28th of October while Europe will have to wait until the 31st. The demo I saw at E3 blew me away and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Look for it on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. → Read More

Whoa, lots of Fallout 3 screenshots have leaked

Well look at that, a bunch of screenshots of Fallout 3 have leaked. The game, which is the prequel to Fallout 4, apparently stole the show at this year’s E3, showing that no matter how many times you re-create Doom you’re guaranteed a receptive audience. That is, of course, your name is Daikatana. Yikes. These particular screenshots come to us by way of Japan, where a recent exposition was held to celebrate stuff. (The Zenimax Asia Expo, if you’re wondering. Zenimax owns the game’s developer, Bethesda.) Apparently these were under NDA, which get broken all the time but companies still use ‘em. So if you’ve got, like, three minutes on your hands and want to waste them by looking at so-so quality screenshots, by all means. via Kotaku → Read More
