INQ to give the world a Twitter-Phone

“This can really help open up and drive Twitter use on mobile when usage becomes part of your data package like on the PC”, said Frank Meehan, chief executive of INQ in an interview with Reuters.
I’m not sure if Meehan owns a smart-phone or not, but mobile connectivity has gone hand-in-hand with Twitter since its inception. In fact, that is one key points of the success of twitter; tweeting from anywhere at any time has really made the service explode.
This product seems like quite the grandiose venture on paper, but I can’t figure out how this will succeed and, moreover, who this will be appealing to.
Why this product will most likely fail (whale):
- Selling a social-network branded phone gives a sense of limited functionality, albeit true or not.
- Relying on Twitter, a shaky-at-best third-party service, could be seen as damaging to the quality of the phone or service. Who likes playing with broken toys?
- Having dozens of smart-phone marketplaces offering free or inexpensive twitter clients, the presence of mobile Twitter services is flooded and the storm won’t be letting up any time soon.
- The phone only appeals to those who use twitter on a regular basis, and most regular users have either found a mobile app or use Twitter’s mobile service (that is quite solid as it is).
