Bungie has done a great job of making fans salivate over Halo: Reach by keeping most the aspects of the game under wraps. Thus far, all the info we have been able to discern has come from the trailers which Bungie released–until now. Yesterday, leaked pictures (shown below) of an upcoming Game Informer magazine hit the web, and the information is quite revealing. It looks like the team at Bungie is going all out on this title. The magazine deals mostly with the campaign–profiling new weapons, characters, and vehicles, but tidbits regarding the multiplayer experience were included as well. All the info we have gathered is after the jump. → Read More
I can’t believe I’m actually going to say this. This Saturday at 8 PM, I know without a doubt I will be sitting on my couch, watching Spike TV. There are only two things which could cause me to do this. One would be if the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was moved from CBS to Spike.
The other, which will actually be happening, is to watch the Video Game Awards, where the global unveiling of Halo: Reach is going down. Given what Bungie has done thus far with the Halo series, I expect nothing short of greatness from Reach, which is slated to drop in Q4, 2010. → Read More
It’s almost like this was planned. Halo 3: ODST is here and so is the $88 Master Chief Hoodie from Ecko. Coincidence? → Read More
Not too long ago, we gave our thoughts on the movie District 9. We did so because it was a big sci-fi movie, and that’s just close enough to the tech-science nexus on which we operate that it justified a quick post. Seeing as though it’s the weekend, and you really all ought to be watching La Liga or playing 360/PS3, we’ll just take two minutes to highlight this interview with the movie’s director, Neill Blomkamp. → Read More
Remember that awesome real-life Warthog built for the never made Halo movie? Yeah, it was the one built upon a Nissan Patrol 4×4 and looked like it could even survive a drive up MLK Ave in Flint, MI. This weekend that very Warthog is on Cockatoo Island in Australia doing a little promo work for Halo: ODST. It’s probably worth your time to see the only working Warthog made if you happen to be anywhere near Sydney Harbour. Oh, and I lost my glasses somewhere in the harbor a few years back, so it would be great if you could find those. → Read More

Back in 2006, when Wall Street was still flying high and Chelsea were sill kings of the English Premier League, Neill Blomkamp was in charge of the Halo movie. Thankfully, the project was canned. Blomkamp moved on to other projects, namely District 9, which looked cool till the actual trailer came out and disappointed me greatly. → Read More

Where were you 10 years ago today? Where were you July 21, 1999, to be redundant? (Me? I can guarantee that I was reading and refreshing wrestlezone.com.) In any event, you should know that 10 years ago Microsoft debuted Halo at MacWorld. Oh, how times have changed. → Read More

What would tech journalists/bloggers do without cryptic-yet-seemingly-revealing job postings? Many a solid rumor has started as a result of these suggestive job position descriptions. Take Microsoft’s recent posting on CareerBuilder.com (now listed as “expired”), for example. “[Microsoft is] looking to blend console, web, and mobile to create an immersive Halo world that follows the dedicated Halo fan wherever they go…As an engineer on this team, your responsibility will be to deliver a great out-of-game interactive experience that takes the next step beyond the systems found in Halo 3″ (emphasis added). → Read More
At some point you have to ask Microsoft, “Hey, guys, are you done milking Halo yet?” Then again, I’d have to ask the good people out there, “Aren’t you guys tired of Halo yet?” That, despite the fact that I know the answers to both of those questions: “no” and “no.” Given this, the news that Microsoft is working on another Halo game, based on some Halo comic book about Orbital Drop Shock Troopers—slow clap—,should not surprise me. But it does, as does the fact that someone higher-up at Microsoft just told USA Today that he “doubt[s] we have seen the last of Master Chief.” → Read More
Hoo boy, here’s a robot in disguise. Also, it’s more than meets the eye. It’s a custom-built Master Chief action figure that transforms into a Warthog. The item is up for bid on eBay and will probably reach astronomical levels. It should, though, because it’s pretty cool. → Read More
Finishing Halo Wars must have been bittersweet for Ensemble Studios. On one hand, they’ve created a fine addition to the Halo franchise, but on the other hand, it was their final project and they had the pressure of turning a shooter into an RTS for a console. It could have ended up brilliant or absolutely horrendous. But you need only look at their pedigree and know that the franchise was in good hands.
What started out as an indie developer over a decade ago, eventually manifested itself into a juggernaut within Microsoft, but was ultimately disbanded upon completion of this Halo project. They were the ones behind Age of Empires and the studio that built the Genie Game Engine, which was used in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. So the question on everyone’s mind has been whether or not Ensemble could turn a console shooter into an RTS. And the answer is unequivocally, yes. And I don’t even like RTS games. → Read More
Ha! This here video, which must have taken some time to put together (I have a new respect for video editing post-Comic Con), shows what Halo would look like if it were a traditional JRPG à la Final Fantasy. → Read More
