Spotify playlists get 'folders', plus other updates

The music streaming service Spotify has long had the ability for users to create their own playlists. And with the recent ‘Spotify Social’ update, sharing those playlists became possible without the need to use third-party services, such as Sharemyplaylists. However, add more than a few playlists to Spotify’s desktop client and managing them can become a pain as they appear in one endless list. Until today’s (gradual) roll out of playlist folders, that is.

That’s right, you can now organise your playlists exactly how you like, genre, artists, mood etc. Here’s how:

To create a playlist folder, simply go to the File -> New playlist folder or click the “+” symbol near the top left side of your screen. Once you’ve created a folder you can just drag and drop existing playlists into it and even create folders within folders to better organise your music.

The company says that folders were a highly requested feature and that they’ll begin rolling out the new client to users today, presumably phasing it so that they can manage resources.
