How The Huang Brothers Bootstrapped Guitar Hero To A Billion Dollar Business

Editor’s note: Derek Andersen is the founder of Startup Grind, a 35-city event series hosted in 15-countries that educates, inspires, and connects entrepreneurs. He also founded Commonred (acquired by Income.com) and is ex-Electronic Arts. • Rock Band 2 guitar and drums priced to pre-order on Amazon

We’ve got prices, people. For the standalone instruments, anyway, and only for the Wii at that, but it helps give a ballpark. At $70 the guitar is 20 bucks more expensive than what the year-old guitar is going for right now, and the drums at $90 are similarly more than the current ones. Looks like the pricing is more or less analogous with the old setup, and this is for pre-order… Read More

  • Guitar Hero World controller released

I like the look of this thing better. Looks more like my guitar, which I think is good because my guitar is good-looking, even if I can’t play it worth a damn. Doug told you about the drum kit with cymbals coming to Guitar Hero IV yesterday and now we have pictures. I can’t decipher much of the text from the GI article, but it appears that you won’t be able to use the Rock Band drum kit on GHIV, which shouldn’t surprise anyone. Read More

  • CrunchArcade Preview: Guitar Hero Aerosmith

I’ve just returned from playing a little bit of Guitar Hero Aerosmith. It was cool, but it’s basically like playing Guitar Hero 3 or so I thought. It’s all in the details that you most likely won’t notice if you’re playing, though. The motion capture for Steven Tyler is pretty cool. Apparently he had to work with a camera man during the mo-cap to ensure his groove… Read More
