Navmii locates 2 million users, pushes 300,000 updates to OpenSteetMap
But more interesting is that Navmii users have contributed over 300,000 updates to the ‘Wikipedia of maps’ OpenStreetMap project, a trend that is on course to make NavFree “as accurate as most expensive Satellite Navigation system within a matter of months”, says Navmii CEO Peter Atalla. Of course, both Google and Nokia have a free offering too, the latter’s Ovi Maps being the most complete.
Navmii’s low-cost Sat-Nav solution built in partnership with map provider Automotive Navigation Data (AND) is currently available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK & the Republic of Ireland. While the company’s free Sat-Nav app for iOS is available for Australia, Austria, Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland, UK & Republic of Ireland and the USA.
Moving forward, Navmii plans to add a European-wide version of Navfree, as well as bringing the app to Android.
