Rumor: Verizon to end early upgrade and "New Every Two" programs

According to a leaked Verizon Training slide that recently landed in Android Central’s virtual lap, ol’ Big Red will be putting to bed both their early upgrade program and their “New Every Two” program come January 16.

The early upgrade program allowed customers to upgrade their handset in months 13-20 of their contract, rather than having to wait out the full 24 months. This was to try and lock customers into another contract before they could leave for another operator, so it is in Verizon’s interest to continue to offer early upgrades. → Read More

Droid 2 World Pictures Leak

Pictures of the Droid 2 World edition leaked out today, revealing a white casing with a silver bezel. This is in contrast with the blue and gunmetal that was used in the first Droid 2, but it seems that the software is going to be more or less exactly the same. [via Phandroid] → Read More

Verizon currently experiencing nationwide data outage

Did you look at your Verizon Droid minutes ago and wonder why you hadn’t gotten any emails within the last few minutes? I did. I just marked it up as the start of a good day, but apparently I was exactly wrong. Verizon’s data network is down and my Gmail inbox is full. Damn. There’s no ETA as of yet and New York seems to be fine. Your best bet is just to hang tight and let the VZW folks do their jobs. They want the network back just as much as you do. → Read More

Motorola Devour going for $150 at Best Buy

It’s the handset that Megan Fox used to make men crumble everywhere, and now it looks like the Motorola DEVOUR can be had at Best Buy pretty soon. At $149.99, it’s $50 less than the DROID, but of course, there are the bells and whistles. → Read More

Verizon Wireless and Skype slated for a duet at MWC

I’ll admit that I love me some Skype. I get to call and video chat with all my buddies from overseas without hefty fees, except I was accustomed to doing it only where Wi-Fi was available. While AT&T and Apple have made some recent policy changes to allow VoIP over 3G, it looks like Verizon and Skype are partnering up do to a little of the same. → Read More

Motorola takes two steps back, says DROID update isn't coming this week

Earlier this week we reported that Motorola would be gearing up for an Android 2.1 update for the DROID. Oops! It turns out that it might not be coming that soon after all. And here we were etching notches into the wall as we counted down the days. → Read More

AT&T starts LTE field trials later this year, commercial deployment in 2011

Are you as excited as I am about LTE and the blazing fast data speeds it promises? Sure you are. And while you’re undoubtedly holding your breath waiting for 4G service and handsets, AT&T is moving forward with field trials after announcing that Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson will be providing its equipment. What’s in store for AT&T in the near future? → Read More

Megan Fox introduces Motorola DEVOUR and looks face-slappingly good

For me, the best part of the Super Bowl is the commercials. And after you see this one, you may have to agree. Just note that you’ll have to play the video several times over before you realize there’s a phone there – the Motorola DEVOUR with MOTOBLUR, to be exact. So, what happens when Megan Fox uses her DEVOUR to send out a hot, wet image via a social network? → Read More

Motorola DEVOUR recently announced and already getting fondled

Well that didn’t take too long at all. Just this morning, the Motorola DEVOUR with MOTOBLUR was announced, and now in-the-wild pics and hands on impressions are surfacing on the web. Pictured next to the Nexus One, the DEVOUR looks much smaller than it does in press images. So how does it feel and what can be expected from the device? → Read More

Verizon breaks out lower-priced unlimited voice plans, keeps smartphone plans the same

Good ol’ VZW just released details about its new unlimited plans and AT&T should probably take notes. The voice-only plan dropped from $99 to only $69 and the voice/text plans is now only $89 instead of $119. The same plans are available on a pre-paid basis for only $5 more per month. The new, lower-priced plans are available today, and just like all of Verizon’s services, current customers can switch to these plans even if they are under contract with another rate plan. → Read More

The Verizon Hub has been discontinued, try not to get upset

Oh, the Verizon Hub. You came to the market just a few years too late. There was a time when a VoIP device with instant messaging capabilities would have been welcomed into the kitchens everywhere but that time was 2006 and not 2009. Now, that market has primarily moved onto full featured smartphones and somewhat killing the need for a home base type device. And so the Hub is no more. Verizon has official canceled the product. → Read More

Verizon cuts the BlackBerry Storm down to $50

The BlackBerry Storm may finally have found its pricing sweet spot. The phone definitely was overpriced at $200 last year and even the $100 price cut a few months ago didn’t seem right, but $50?!? Yeah, I wanna throw mine into a wall and piss on the remains daily, but VZW isn’t going to have any trouble at all clearing out the inventory. You know why it’s only $50 right? → Read More

The Verizon Touch Pro 2 handled pre-release

What do we have here? The new hotness? mhmm. The HTC Touch Pro 2 is still a while away from being launched but somehow it was placed in front of a camera lens. Overall, it looks great with a clever eatching of the world on the backplate, a 3.5mm jack on the bottom, and a sleek design when it’s closed. Hopefully the keyboard works as well as it looks. According to the tipster, Verizon will probably have the phone sometime in early September. Check the video after the jump. → Read More

Rumor: BlackBerry Storm 2 to hit VZW in November

Remember last year when everyone was stoked about the new touchscreen BlackBerry called the Storm? Oh man, the hype was huge. There was iPhone-ish lines, media coverage, the works. But then the first reviews came out and we all realized the truth: the phone sucked. It’s now a lot better thank to firmware updates, but the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 2 will hopefully recapture some of the original anticipation.. → Read More

Huzzah! Verizon knows what’s up. The prices of its smartphones have been slashed, cut, and discounted down to iPhone 3G levels. Every single smartphone – expect for the new BlackBerry Tour and Samsung Saga – can be had for $99 or less on-contract. This means that the HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro, and Samsung Omnia are now only $99 straight up. It’s like Verizon is talking right to those feed up with AT&T’s shenanigans. → Read More
