DIY: 500 LED Extreme Flashlight

So you think you’ve got a bright flashlight. You got nothing! This guy built his own, with 500 LEDs (which consume a shockingly low 50 watts when it’s powered up. This guy is so good, he wasn’t just content to build the most ridiculously bright LED flashlight in the world, oh no. He also built a custom interface for it that allows him to make it flash, control the power levels… → Read More

Thanko's Spy Flashlight records video in HD (video)

It looks like Tokyo-based acessory maker Thanko is trying to carve out a new niche for themselves, spy gadgets (apart from insane USB gadgets). The newest addition to their spy equipment lineup is the LED Spy Light HD [JP], an LED flashlight that records video in HD. Needless to say, the device lets you shoot photos, too. → Read More

Review: The Torch, a $300 flashlight

Let’s be honest for a moment: an awful lot of the stuff we cover here at CrunchGear isn’t really necessary. All the silly USB gadgets, geek gizmos, and other doodads are fun to own, but don’t make your life demonstrably better. So I was pretty excited when I was given the opportunity to review The Torch from Wicked Lasers. Billed as the world’s brightest flashlight at a… → Read More

Let all other flashlights kneel before the mPower Emergency Illuminator

LEDs have really changed the flashlight market. It used to be that a Maglight was the pinnacle of illumination technology. Not any more. → Read More

It's a light that clips onto your glasses. I can't really think of a witty title.

The latest in German engineering, the Nachteule (“night owl” for you non-German-speakers) is a handy little LED light that clips to your glasses for those late night-reading sessions. It looks a bit unwieldy, but I’m sure it’ll get the job done. So will a flashlight. Or using your phone. Or turning the light on. → Read More

Review: Spotlight flashlight

There’s not much you can do to improve the flashlight. You turn it on, point it at things, and turn it off. Maybe you make it smaller or brighter or more rugged, but you’re still just talking about a flashlight. That’s why I’m willing to say the Spotlight mini flashlight is worth a second look. Instead of being just a flashlight, it’s a flashlight that fits into the… → Read More

Review: Energizer Hard Case Professional Inspector Flashlight

I’ve been through my fair share of Maglite Minis. They’re good flashlights, but they can’t hold a candle to many of the modern LED flashlights. Take the Inspection Light from Energizer’s Hard Case Professional line. It’s about the same size, but a fraction of the weight. It feels solid. The casing is an ergonomic combination of steel and rubberized plastic. Oh yeah… → Read More

The Stanley 3-in-One LED Flashlight should be in your car right now

If you have ever had to change a tire in the dark, you can probably imagine how handy a tripod flashlight can be. If you have ever changed a tire on a snowy night, you understand why you would want the 95-155 Stanley 3-in-1 Tripod Flashlight to lend a hand. I had too last winter, but in my “Eagle Scout always prepared duffle bag,” I had a big Maglight which is in fact, the worst… → Read More

Belkin Lights Up UPS

I have an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) system, and I hate it. Not because it doesn’t work, ’cause it does. I hate it because when the power does go out, I invariably turn the thing off while trying to turn off the alarm it uses to let you know you’ve lost power. Belkin seems to have heard my cries, as its advertising a new UPS (or Battery Backup) that not only has room for… → Read More
