Music Vault Partners With YouTube To Bring 13K Rare Live Music Videos Online

This isn’t quite the launch of YouTube’s music service, but it’s still good news for music lovers: Music Vault is bringing 13,000 videos of live performances to the site. This includes concerts by the likes of The Who, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, James Brown and Bruce Springsteen, as well as from indie acts like Deer Tick, St. Vincent and Fleet Foxes.

Music Vault launched a few months ago and uploaded just under 1,000 videos to the site since then. Now, it’s adding 12,000 more and promises to continue to add more over time. It’s worth noting that some of these are full concerts, but most are individual songs that were part of a longer live performance.

The service says it will also curate a weekly playlist, produce fresh video for YouTube and create daily video features. In partnership with Daytrotter and Paste Magazine, Music Vault also presents a range of other videos.

“After two years restoring, transferring, mixing and mastering thousands of tapes from our enormous archive, we’re thrilled and extremely proud to share this massive treasure with the YouTube music community,” says Music Vault content editor Bill Antonucci.

Music Vault is owned by online music memorabilia store Wolfgang’s Vault. Through Concert Vault, the service already makes a wide range of audio recordings available on a subscription basis. With Music Vault, however, it looks like the company is opting for video ads as its main business model.
