First Round Capital Rounds Up E-Commerce Deals From Its Portfolio Companies On New Website

First Round Capital, a VC firm which has numerous investments in the e-commerce space, is today supporting its portfolio companies with the launch of a collective site where visitors can browse its startups’ holiday shopping discounts and deals. At the site, gifts.firstround.com, visitors can grab discount codes and other deals for popular brands like Fab.com, One Kings Lane, Birchbox, Modcloth, Hotel Tonight, and others, while also discovering the lesser known companies First Round has also invested in.

In total, there are 25 e-commerce startups on the new site, including Birchbox, Refinery29, Threadflip, Lookcraft, True&Co, Kiwi Crate, Chloe & Isabel, Hotel Tonight, Custommade, TaskRabbit, Dogvacay, GrubWithUs, Birchbox Man, Liftopia, Instacanvas, Storenvy, UrbanSitter, Sincerely, PocketChange, Birchbox Home, Roblox, Pathjoy, Poppin, One King’s Lane, and Fab. Discounts range from dollars off (like $30 off Hotel Tonight) or percentages off (like 15% of Birchbox, 20% of Threadflip, etc.)

According to a post by First Round’s Josh Kopelman announcing this short-term showcase,  the companies combined have gone on to raise over $350,000,000 in follow-on capital after the firm’s seed stage investment. This new site will be shared via Facebook and Twitter, we’re told.

In terms of bottom-line impact, however, it will likely be more beneficial to the smaller brands, who will benefit from sharing the spotlight from First Round’s better-known portfolio companies. But for a company like Fab.com, for example, being included on First Round’s homepage is merely a drop in the bucket, as the company has participated in numerous partnerships over the holidays, including with Facebook Gifts, LivingSocial, Cool Hunting, and more – all more likely to generate clicks than on a VC firm’s website.

Also of note: while the site launched on Cyber Monday, it may not be the best place to get the biggest discount on the brands it features today. Case in point: on Threadflip’s own website, visitors can get 30% off and free shipping (on orders over $60) while the First Round site offers a 20% discount instead. You’ll still need to be a savvy shopper to score the best deals, it seems. Some of the coupon codes and deals can be used from now through the end of the year, too, so this effort isn’t Cyber Monday-only resource.
