eCoupled is a company that works on wireless power stuff — you know, power mats, desktop chargers, that sort of thing, interesting but not quite ready for deployment. But at their booth here, they were also showing off this glowing Honey Nut Cheerios package. I love that cereal, so I had to investigate.

It turns out they’re in talks with parties like General Mills and such to produce packages that glow and blink, powered by the shelf below them. The actual illuminating element and basic CPU would be extremely cheap and (they say) wouldn’t add much to the price of the packaging, and it’d be a hell of a way to attract young eyeballs.

I can’t say I really want my Cheerios to glow, but it’s just one more sign that we’re moving into the future.
