June's console sales: oh dear, Nintendo wins again

salesIt’s that time again! The numbers have been enumerated, the inventories inventoried, and the charts charted. Console sales for the month of June, this year AD 2009, are in and they are pretty much what you’d expect. Nintendo is clobbering the hell out of everyone in hardware sales, though a few flagship launches have taken the software crown.

Here are the details straight from Nintendo Everything (an unbiased source if I ever heard of one):

-Nintendo DS 766.5K
-Wii 361.7K
-Xbox 360 240.6K
-PlayStation 3 164.7K
-PSP 163.5K
-PlayStation 2 152.7K

And in all caps, the games:

-PROTOTYPE 360 ACTIVISION BLIZZARD June-09 419.9K
-UFC 2009:UNDISPUTED 360 THQ May-09 338.3K
-EA SPORTS ACTIVE BUNDLE WII ELECTRONIC ARTS May-09 289.1K
-TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 10* WII ELECTRONIC ARTS June-09 272.4K
-WII FIT WII NINTENDO OF AMERICA May-08 271.6K
-FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 360 ELECTRONIC ARTS June-09 260.8K
-FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 PS3 ELECTRONIC ARTS June-09 210.3K
-MARIO KART W/WHEEL WII NINTENDO OF AMERICA April-08 202.1K
-RED FACTION:GUERRILLA 360 THQ June-09 199.4K
-INFAMOUS PS3 SONY May-09 192.7K

Wow, Prototype really blew up. Good for them! And Fight Night looked pretty awesome when we saw it at E3, so I’m not surprised to see it up there. And Red Faction: Guerilla too? What a nice haul!

In truth, though, total sales are down from last month, which was down from the month before, etc etc. I’d guess that people are hunkering down, buying used games, and replaying old ones. I know that’s what I’ve been doing for the last decade or so.
