Back in September, Google announced that Google Play Music, the search giant’s Apple Music and Spotify competitor, was to get a family plan “later this year”. Well, that later is now.
The new plan lets up to 6 people listen to unlimited, ad free music on Google Play for $14.99 a month. As we noted before, that puts it on a level playing field with Apple Music’s own family plan, while Spotify is a little less generous, offering a 50 per cent discount on additional premium accounts, not a family plan per se.
In a blog post, Eunice Kim, Google Play Families product manager, says that the new Google Play Music family plans affords the same features for up to 6 family members as an individual account, including ad free, unlimited access to “more than 35 million songs,” and the ability for each family member to stream simultaneously to any device.
Meanwhile, Kim says you’ll be able to sign up for a Google Play Music family plan in the coming days on Android devices in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia, France and Germany, with more countries coming soon.
