Android Wear Gets New Watchfaces From Hello Kitty, Angry Birds, And 15 Other Mega Brands

In the battle between Android Wear and the Apple Watch, each watch platform only has so many unique advantages.

One of Android Wear’s bigger bulletpoints: it can run totally custom third party watch faces. It’s a solid way to make your watch feel more like your watch, and you can be damned sure Google is going to play that card hard until Apple gets around to supporting it themselves.

This morning, Google is lettin’ loose a big bundle of new watch faces in partnership with 17 mega brands. Hello Kitty! Angry Birds! And… a swedish watch maker?

The list of brands jumping on board is, itself, somewhat interesting. Cartoon brands? They’re all over it. Fashion brands? They’re in — in fact, fashion/jewelry brands make up more than 1/2 the list, with such strong interest presumably stemming from the fact that they can’t get on the Apple Watch even as Apple pitches it as the hottest thing in fashion since sliced bread necklaces. Watch brands? No way — that is except for Triwa, a relatively young (founded in 2007) manufacturer out of Stockholm.

All of the new faces should go live here later today.

Here’s what they all look like:
