Nvidia committing to newfangled 55nm process

Son, I remember the days when chips were 55 meters! Ain’t no one ever even heard of a nano back then. Had troops o’ monkeys cartin’ ice packs to and from the walk-in freezer just to keep that machine from meltin’ down and burying us all in hot copper — dag nabbit!

Seriously, though. Nvidia’s newest, fastest cards are being done on a 55nm process, which allows for way more transistors and/or less heat (if they felt like it), but the mid-range cards are still making the jump from 65nm. Nvidia wants to completely switch over to 55nm before the end of the year. That’s good news for everyone: Better hardware and a unified manufacturing process means more bang for your buck. Looks like the game’s just starting to heat up.
