Color Labs Chief Product Officer DJ Patil will soon be leaving the company as a full time employee, we’ve confirmed. Patil, who was LinkedIn’s chief scientist until March, was only with Color for about 5 months. He’ll transition to become an advisor to the company.

Color lost cofounder Peter Pham a month ago. This is the second high profile loss for the struggling company.

Color is a social app for photos. You take photos and then the photos appear on the fly with other photos in your vicinity. You get to see the photos your friends are taking as well as other people within 100 feet of your photo. The app will group photos based on who your friends are so you are more likely to see photos that you are interested in. The service is available on Android or iPhone.

DJ Patil is the Chief Data Scientist at Greylock Partners. Previously he was the Chief Product Officer of Color Labs. He previously worked for LinkedIn as their Chief Scientist and Chief Security Officer and eBay as their Director of Strategy, Analytics, and Product. Prior to that he focused on National Security issues on Counter Terrorism and Bioweapons Proliferation Prevention. In the academic community he is best know for his work in numerical weather prediction.
