The man who just bought one of the first Apple I computers, which sold at auction in London ysterday for £133,250 ($210,000), is Italian businessman Marco Boglione. But who is he?

Well for starters he’s President of Italian holding company BasicNet SpA, which owns the trademarks Kappa, Robe di Kappa, Jesus Jeans, K-Way and Superga. Kappa, for instance, is a global sports clothing brand.

BasicNet was founded in 1983, and listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in 1999. In 2003, the total sales of products marketed under the group’s brands exceeded EUR200 million.

Boglione himself was born in 1956 and grew up in Turin, son of a mother and father both in business. Father Lorenzo Boglione was the director of a major insurance company.

Boglione moved from photography into fashion, eventually, in 1983, founding a sports merchandising company which was the first company in Europe to produce and market under license leisure clothing and accessories with the trademarks and team colours of the main football teams.

Various other companies followed but Boglione appears to be committed to creating a highly web connected company with the motto “We want to be the world’s most Web-integrated company”. You can find out more about him here.
