EA readying ‘realistic-looking’ sports accessories for Nintendo platforms

Electronic Arts apparently thinks that there’s still some gold in them thar Wii accessory hills, as the company has announced a line of “realistic-looking EA SPORTS golf clubs, tennis rackets and baseball bats for the Wii and Nintendo DSi as well as fitness gear for use with EA SPORTS Active.” EA has partnered with accessory maker Sakar to develop everything.

The accessories are slated for a spring release and include the following:

For the Wii

The EA SPORTS accessory lineup includes a broad assortment of Wii compatible golf clubs, tennis rackets and baseball bats for use with game titles such as EA SPORTS™ Grand Slam® Tennis and EA SPORTS Tiger Woods PGA TOUR® 10 & Tiger Woods PGA TOUR® 11.  Products come in various packages, such as father/son, junior set and pro set golf clubs that extend up to 24″ or 36″ for realistic gameplay. All accessories attach to the Wii Remote and in some cases are compatible with the Wii MotionPlus™ motion-control enhancement. SRPs $14.99 to $29.99.

For the DSi

The Nintendo DSi offerings include 5-in-1 kits carrying football, baseball, basketball and soccer.  Each kit comes with a game case, skin, stylus, and clip-on earphones or headphones that thematically match the relevant sport. SRPs $19.99 to $24.99.

For EA SPORTS Active

With accessories for EA SPORTS Active™, users can now break a bigger sweat with compatible peripherals and accessories such as: new wrist/ankle weights, fitness cords and dumbbells, armbands and legbands. All these devices are cable free and compatible with the Wii Motion Plus.  The EA SPORTS Active™ Starter Kit comes with a bag for the Wii Balance Board, yoga mat, fitness cord, armband and legbands. The EA SPORTS Active™ Gym Kit combines a gym bag and yoga mat with a fitness cord and wrist/ankle weights. SRPs $19.99 to $39.99.

Those 36-inch golf clubs sound mildly interesting, although you’ll want to make sure you have space in your rumpus room to swing them around without breaking the antique vases your mom has strategically placed on various tabletops.
