Sanyo Japan announced [press release in English] the LP-WL2500 today, an ultra short-focus projector whose newly developed filter and lamp makes it possible to use the device for long periods without maintenance. To be more specific, Sanyo says they boosted lamp life by 30% (when compared to the previous model) to 4,000 hours. The hybrid filter has the main lifespan, which was 20 times lower previously.

The LP-WL2500 features a 230W lamp that produces 2,500 lumens, WXGA resolution, 500:1 contrast ratio, an HDMI interface, Ethernet, and a 10W speaker. Users can project a 80-inch image from a distance of only 86 cm with the ultra short-focus lens.

The LP-WL2500 will go on sale in Japan in July this year for $2,900. Sanyo hasn’t said yet whether it will be available outside Japan as well.
