Two weeks ago, Bandai announced that it gives a 60-foot tall Gundam robot suit to the city of Tokyo, now the Japanese toy giant plans to build robot action figures that cost a whopping $20,000 apiece [JP]. The figures are based on an action anime called Mazinger Z (Tranzor Z in North America).

The to-order action figures stand 60cm tall and will be made with carbon and titanium, materials normally used in race cars. Production starts this fall, but orders can be placed over the Internet already (needless to say, the figures are Japan-only).

There is a new “Mazinger Z” series to be broadcast in April on Japanese TV and the action figures are being offered in honor of the anime’s 35th anniversary.
