Shock: New hand disorder linked to prolonged video game playing

sorny

A new, sinister study has shone the black light of shame upon video game controllers. Doctors have identified a new ailment called PlayStation palmar hidradentitis, which is a skin disorder that comes about as a result of squeezing video game controllers very hard while simultaneously pressing buttons. One small problem: the study was based on only one person, so…

The disorder affects one’s palms:

The tight and continuous grasping of the hand-grips together with repeated pushing of the buttons produce minor but continuous trauma to the (palm) surfaces

Minor trauma? That almost sounds serious. But since I don’t have healthcare I’m going to have to ignore this problem, should it ever develop.

For its part, Sony hasn’t dismissed the report as poppycock, which was my initial reaction, electing instead to “study the findings with interest.”

As far as that one-person-study thing, this whole hullabaloo was kicked up because a single girl exhibited symptoms of the newly dubbed PlayStation palmar hidradentitis. Doctors told her to quit playing, and 10 days later she was back to full health.

Let me bottom line it for y’all: take a break every now and then as you’re battling Seth in Street Fighter IV.
