First lady biographies exclusively head to Kindle

So how ’bout them first ladies? Pretty interesting, right?

Hopefully. Amazon just inked a deal with Globe Pequot Press to offer two books about each of the potential first ladies. They’re exclusive to the Kindle, which is certainly a feather in Amazon’s cap, but I don’t know how much touchy-feely-nes I can handle from books like these.

Take the titles, “Cindy McCain: Elegance, Good Will and Hope for a New America” and “Michelle Obama: Grace and Intelligence in a Time of Change.” Don’t they just reek of puff piece, coffee table ware.

Whichever spouse makes her way to the White House will see their respective biography published as a proper paperback, which will cost $14.95. The Kindle version costs $9.99, so if you’re in the mood for a deal you’d better grab that version.

Unmitigated snark aside, this is obviously a big deal for Amazon. I don’t see why publishers don’t offer the first few chapters of an upcoming book for free on Kindle to whet people’s appetites. Then again, every content provider ever is deathly afraid of digital distribution, so maybe that’s a pie-in-the-sky hope.
