Volunteering for work exchange is a no-budget opportunity to experience Disrupt up-close-and-personal. Help us create the well-oiled event that savvy start-uppers have come to know and love, and you’ll earn a free General Admission pass — good for all three days of the show.

Whether you dream of becoming a startup founder, marketer or event coordinator, this is a great way to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to produce a world-class tech startup conference.

What are the requirements to apply as a volunteer?

  • Attend an mandatory in person orientation at the Moscone Center on Sept 18th
  • Fulfill at lest 8 hours of volunteer hours during Disrupt
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Local bay area resident with previous event volunteer experience is preferred but not required

What are the volunteer dates?

  • Monday, Sept 18th, 2023
  • Tuesday, Sept 19th, 2023
  • Wednesday, Sept 20th, 2022
  • Thursday, Sept 21st, 2023

Volunteers can sign up for available shifts when their applications are approved.

What kinds of tasks do volunteers perform?

Volunteers handle a variety of tasks, which may include- but are not limited to – the following:

  • Registration check-in
  • Line or traffic control
  • Directional/customer support
  • Expo set up support
  • General event set up

Can I get paid/reimbursed for costs?

This is a volunteer opportunity. TechCrunch will not pay for any expenses, including travel, incurred by volunteers.

When will I hear back from TechCrunch about my application?

Applications are reviewed on a weekly basis, and we will begin to notify approved applicants starting the week of July 24th. Due to large volume of applications we receive, we will only notify confirmed volunteers.

When will I get my Disrupt ticket?

At the volunteer orientation in person on 9/18 at the Moscone West. You will pick up a badge for general admission so you can enjoy the conference programming and networking while you’re not volunteering.

What’s the address/where do I need to go?

All volunteer activities will take place at Moscone Center West. 800 Howard Street, San Francisco, CA 94103

What is the dress code for volunteers?

A Disrupt volunteer T-shirt will be provided during the orientation. We suggest dark jeans or dark color pants and comfortable work shoes that provides good support for walking and standing. For those who have signed up for any shifts at offsite receptions, we recommend you bring a light jacket as it’ll be outside.

Will I be trained?

Yes, a TechCrunch manager will train all volunteers and check you in before your shift starts.

Is food provided to volunteers?

Yes, we will provide snacks and water.

Is there an age requirement to volunteer?

Yes, all volunteers must be at least 18 years of age by September 18th, 2023. For volunteers that are working at the offsite receptions, the requirement is age 21 and up.

Is there a place to store my personal belongings?

Yes, there is a coat check onsite that we recommend you checking in valuable items. There is also a volunteer lounge on the second floor reserve for volunteers who are on duty. TechCrunch will not be liable for any items lost or stolen during Disrupt.

Where can I park?

We highly recommend ride share or public transit. The Moscone Center does not have on-site parking. For information about parking around The Moscone Center, please click here.
