Paramount Pictures will debut “Jackass 2.5” on the Internet next week, the first time a major studio will premiere a movie online. The movie, which consists of footage cut from “Jackass 2,” is about 90 minutes long and will stream for free on Blockbuster’s Movielink.

Casting aside my cynicism for a second, yes, this is fairly significant. It’s an experiment to see whether or not Web movies are a viable venture. I’d like to know how they plan on figuring out how many people see the movie.
