HP MediaSmart 37-inch LCD Media Center TV

hp_mediasmart.jpgThis 37-inch HDTV from HP retails for $2,699.99, which is a lot more than standard 37-inch LCD TVs. Why? Because it’s capable of streaming photos, music and video from any PC on the network to the TV—without having to buy separate gear.

The TV can stream media over 802.11a/b/g and 100Mbps Ethernet, keeping the living room area computer-free, just the way the wife likes it. The TV supports “JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, WMA, WMA-Pro, MP3, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 MP@ML, MPEG-2 MP@HL, MPEG-4 (DivX), AVI, WMV and WMV-HD.” Quite surprising to see a mainstream entertainment center support DivX right out of the box.

The MediaSmart with its 1080i/720p resolution display is pretty useful if you don’t want to go to the trouble of setting up an actual media center computer in your living room, or if you’re going for the spartan look in your home theater.
