Founded by Craig Newmark in 1995, Craigslist is a classified advertisement website with sections devoted to jobs, housing, personals, items wanted, services, community, gigs, resumes and discussion forums. It began as an email distribution list featuring local events in the San Francisco Bay Area before becoming a web-based service and expanding to other U.S. cities.  Jim Buckmaster joined Craigslist in 2000 as lead programmer and CTO. He was promoted to CEO in 2000. By 2012, more than 700 cities in 70 countries had Craigslist sites.
