Verizon’s Bringing Wi-Fi Calling To Select Samsung Phones Next Week, iPhones “Early Next Year”

Verizon Wireless has announced that it’s turning on Wi-Fi calling for devices starting next week, beginning with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. But iPhone users, as well as non-Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge customers will have to wait until “early next year” for Wi-Fi calling, according to Verizon’s blog post announcing the feature.

In order to activate Wi-Fi calling for audio and video calls on Android, Verizon subscribers will need to turn on Advanced Calling from the Settings menu and be sure to install the latest software update. Wi-Fi calling can especially come in handy when your cell connection is terrible, but you have access to a Wi-Fi network. If you travel outside of Verizon’s network coverage, and a Wi-Fi network is available, the call will automatically transfer to Wi-Fi.

This comes a couple of months after AT&T turned on Wi-Fi calling for the iPhone 6, 6+, 6S and 6S+. Sprint and T-Mobile, on the other hand, have supported Wi-Fi calling for quite a while.
