PlayStation 4 Owners Finally Have A Proper Version Of Twitch’s Streaming App

Videogame streaming company Twitch teased a more complete version of its app for Sony’s PlayStation 4 at its TwitchCon event last month, and now the company has confirmed that the revamped app is live.

PlayStation 4 owners are already able to stream their game sessions via Twitch, but, while the current setup limits their viewing to broadcasts from other PS4 owners only, the new app lets them tune in to games broadcast from other platforms using Twitch. Other features include full chat integration, the ability to follow channels and games, and a featured section for content discovery.

The Twitch app is initially available for the PS4 first, via a global rollout that begins with users in the U.S. and other Americas markets. Twitch, which was bought by Amazon for more than $1 billion last year, said a similar version of the app will hit the PlayStation 3 and Vita “later this fall” — but owners of these older consoles won’t get the full chat integration, which is limited to the PS4.
