Microsoft Will Offer Windows 10 Upgrade For Mobile Devices Running Windows 8.1

Microsoft has confirmed that it will offer upgrades to its upcoming Windows 10 platform to all mobile devices that currently run its latest Windows 8.1 software.

Speaking at a press conference at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Microsoft’s mobile chief Steven Elop confirmed the plan, although he did explain that some features in the new OS would vary based on the specs of devices.

Elop also confirmed that the company will introduce dedicated Windows 10 devices, including some flagship models “later this year.”

The company used the event to announce its new Lumia 640 and 640 XL, which initially ship with Windows 8.1 and pack a range of Microsoft services. The company also showed off Windows 10 features for mobile devices for the first time and its HoloLens technology.
