Software keyboard maker Fleksy raised a new $2 million round of venture funding from Digital Garage, Eniac Ventures, Middleland Capital, Highland Capital Partners and others to help it continue to power its growth, which got a big boost from the launch of iOS 8 earlier this year. The additional round will help the company fund development on both iOS and Android, however, and a new Android update accompanies today’s announcement, in fact.

The new Android version offers a new layout with a repositioned backspace and shift key, which have been moved due to user feedback (it’s a toggle option, too, so if you’re used to the way things were you can keep them that way), a new language selection option for the minimal Fleksy layout, and better accuracy in the core Fleksy engine for automatic word correction.

Fleksy’s Android reach has extended to over two million downloads, and the iOS version has topped the charts since its launch at some point or another in at least 25 countries. Fleksy’s update pace on iOS has also been quick, as the company moves to try to beat competitors on the platform with constant improvements to its predictive engine.

Fleksy has raised a total of $5.3 million across 3 rounds to date, so the $2 million today brings the total to over $7 million. They’re competing with the better-funded SwiftKey, which raised a $21.6 million Series B last September, but they’ve got a proficiency with design and iteration pace that’s hard to match.
