11 TechCrunch Stories You Don’t Want to Miss This Week

The week of 7/12 – 7/18 was a busy one for TechCrunch. Here’s the best of the best from this week.

1. Priya Haji was an inspirational and positive presence in the technology and business worlds, and she will be greatly missed. Chicago-based entrepreneur Cheryl Dahle established a crowdfunding campaign on Fundly to help support Haji’s young children. 2. Ryan Block is the former head of Engadget, founder of GDGT, and now product guy at AOL. He tried to cancel his Comcast subscription, and the service rep wouldn’t give up on him. After about 10 minutes, Block started recording the call. The result is a hilarious audio recording that shows the world how crazy Comcast really is. 3. A 42-year-old Tokyo-based artist was arrested for selling 3D models of her vagina.
4. Apple and IBM have teamed up for a huge, expansive enterprise push. This is a big blow to Google and Microsoft.
5. Tesla confirms that its third car will be called the Model 3.
6. TechCrunch writer, Romain Dillet, has had it up to here with paid email databases for tech journalists, so he decided to release the email addresses of the TechCrunch writers for free. This should save you a solid $9.
7. John Biggs argues that Samsung needs to pull out of whatever dive they’re in and start competing with the world (not just Apple) again.
8. Rap Genius raised $40M, launched embeddable annotations, and changed the name of the company to Genius. They will likely spend the extra money on hiring engineers, designers, and community leaders. Josh Constine argues that the new name is more accessible and intelligible to communities reading and writing annotations outside of rap.
9. On Wednesday, Darrell Etherington wrote a story about Amazon testing a new service called Kindle Unlimited. On Friday, the “Netflix For ebooks and audiobooks” was confirmed.
10. Airnbnb revealed a brand new logo on Wednesday. They also packaged the reveal with a logo generator. Some of our readers had a little fun making their own versions of the logo.
11. The co-founder of Lockitron explains why the Lockitron hardware has taken so long to ship.
