Boston Dynamics’ Robot Treks Through Rough Terrain With The USMC

In this 1-minute YouTube video, Marines field test the Google-owned Boston DynamicsLS3 in Hawaii with team members of the Legged Squad Support System at the Rim of the Pacific Exercise, a multinational maritime exercise.

The “pack mule” robot’s purpose is to carry heavy loads through rough terrains, and the video shows exactly that.

Lance Corporal Brandon Dieckmann says on their first day, his team took the robot through some thick brush, which an internally transported vehicle could not go through.

“A lot of people don’t think it will be able to handle the terrain that it does, I’d see about 70 to 80 percent of what we can go through it can actually get through,” Dieckmann said.

The robot, which looks terrifying by the way, is being used to hold supplies such as water canisters.
