The Next Legend Of Zelda Game Lands On The Wii U In 2015

At its E3 press conference this morning, Nintendo gave us the first real look at the first game in the “Legend of Zelda” series to be made from the ground up for the Wii U.

We didn’t get a title, or even a solid release date, but Nintendo confirmed that the next Zelda game will land on the Wii U console in 2015 and take place in a massive open world, as you can see in the video below:

The Nintendo Wii U isn’t doing nearly as well as its competition from Sony and Microsoft despite its incredibly fun, family-friendly game library. Nintendo fans vocalize their hopes that sales of the console will pick up every time there’s a major release, as you may have noticed with the recent release of Mario Kart 8.

While plenty of the company’s fans have said they’re holding off on the console for Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, or The Legend of Zelda, it’s getting increasingly difficult to argue that Nintendo can revive the its sales with first-party games alone.

Still, we can’t help be excited for a real next-generation Zelda game. The brief video we were shown was a badass, interactive painting with a laser-toting octopus monster, a far more interesting look than the demo we were shown at E3 in 2012:
