The Jawbone UP24 Finally Gets Android Support

Finally. The Jawbone UP24 now works with Android phones. The wireless UP fitness tracker launched in late 2013 and has so far only worked with iOS devices. But not anymore. The company just released the UP 3.0 Android app, which features all but the most recently added bells and whistles found in the iOS app.

Most notably, the Jawbone app now allows data collected by the UP24 to sync wirelessly to an Android device through Bluetooth 4.0.

The $149 UP24 oddly launched without Android support. It took the company four months to make its latest and greatest activity tracker compatible with the most popular mobile operating system. When the original Jawbone UP launched in 2011, it also lacked Android support. It took a year-and-a-half for Jawbone to release an Android app for that fitness tracker.

“We believe that helping people understand the context and meaning of their data is key in helping to make sustained behavior changes. Through our investment in data science we have been able to provide personalized insights to help nudge people to meet their sleep or activity goals. Now with the launch of UP24 on Android, our entire community can enjoy the benefits of these insights in real-time, with continuous feedback and in-the-moment notifications to help them achieve their goals,” said Travis Bogard, vice president of product management and strategy for Jawbone, in a released statement. “Android users have been incredibly active in the UP community, and we’re thrilled to bring UP24 to the Android platform.”

From sleep tracking to idle alerts, the Jawbone UP Android app is now on par with its iOS counterpart. Download it from Google Play here. Finally.
