Hoppit, The Ambience Search Engine For Restaurants, Comes To Android, Updates iPhone App

Hoppit, the ambience search engine for restaurants that launched earlier this year, has launched its Android app. With this new app, Android users will now also be able to easily find that one hipster-friendly, romantic restaurant in their neighborhood for their next date. Previously, Hoppit was only available on the web and on the iPhone.

Unlike most restaurant recommendation services, Hoppit aims to catalog restaurants based on their ambience (classy and upscale, hipster, romantic, swanky and posh, etc.) and atmosphere (dimly lit, view, fireplace etc.), as well as by standard search filters like cuisine and neighborhood. The service is currently available in 14 cities (New York, Brooklyn, San Francisco, Chicago, L.A., Boston, Seattle, D.C., Austin, Dallas, Portland, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Denver) and the team plans to add one additional city every two weeks.

1 Million Recommendations Since Launch

Since its launch in April, Hoppit Founder Steven Dziedzic tell us, the service has made over 1 million recommendation and its platform currently has 50,000 users. According to Dziedzic, one of the most common searches on the service currently is “what Hipsters drink.” It’s not clear if the app’s users are searching for these places to get a drink there or if they are actively trying to avoid them.

With today’s Android release, Hoppit is also launching an update to its iPhone app. Hoppit’s iPhone app already featured a focus on beautiful images from inside of many of the restaurants it recommended, but now, the service will also feature menus (courtesy of a partnership with SinglePlatform from Constant Contact) and OpenTable reservations. In addition, Hoppit’s apps will now feature dish recommendations thanks to the 13 million items and 250,000 menus in SinglePlatform’s database.

“We’ve been keeping a close ear to our consumers, and on-the-go users want a one-stop shop app for finding a restaurant,” said Steven Dziedzic, CEO of Hoppit in a canned statement. “Our new Android app and updated iPhone app are exactly that, now including relevant suggestions, beautiful photos, menus, and mobile reservations, all in a seamless user experience. Hoppit brings a true one-stop shop experience to the world of restaurant search.”
