Good Old Games Forced To Shut Down (For Some Reason)

Well, bad news here. You may already be aware of this, but Good Old Games, also known as GOG, has shut down. A full update is expected this Wednesday, but a message was just posted on the Web site assuring us that all of our downloads are safe and sound. Pretty bummed out, yes.

There’s next to no information available right now. If you visit the site now, you’re greeted with a Web site straight out of 1995, with a message that says, “We’ve debated on it for quite some time and, unfortunately, we’ve decided that GOG.com simply cannot remain in its current form.”

It’s shutting down, yes.

GOG hasn’t said why they’ve been forced out of business, but they did hint at something fairly uncool: “Unfortunately we had to close the service due to business and technical reasons.”

Business reasons, hmmm?

In any event, all the games you’ve purchased will be made available again. (I bought the Fallout games and Myst, so I have a personal interest in seeing this play out.)

A sad day.
