Garmin may leave the smartphone business

In an article posted by Reuters today, Garmin Chief Financial Officer Kevin Rauckman stated that nuvifone handsets have failed to reach the company’s expectations, and that they will decide the fate of the handset unit over the next few quarters — with a view to exit the business entirely.

All this kinda makes sense, as the conversion of PNDs and phones seems to have been made redundant when Google made navigation free for Android phones (although Garmin would argue that PNDs were still a cheaper option).

Maybe this could explain the appearance of the solely ASUS-branded WinPho7 device we saw the other day? Who knows.
