GE announces a waterproof point and shoot, the G3WP

As an amateur photographer, I generally look down on point and shoots because their image quality stinks something fierce on top of other things, but once in a while a few gems pop up like Fujifilm’s F30 and upcoming F200EXR. And then there are folks like General Imaging or GE or whatever they are that have no business making or selling consumer digital cameras.

So, why am I writing about a GE-branded camera? Well, it’s waterproof and there aren’t too many out there. OK, that’s a lie. All the majors have one except for Nikon. But it’s a niche market, so I’m willing to give GE a fair shake. The G3WP is a 12.2-megapixel shooter with 4x optical zoom, rechargeable battery, 2.7-inch LCD, waterproof up to 10 feet and an ISO up to 3200. No word on price or launch, but I guarantee it’ll be cheap.
