If you’re like me, burning a DVD at 22X is like waiting for water to boil. My kingdom for a 24X DVD burner! That extra 2X would make all the difference in the world – or would it?
To be completely honest, I don’t even know what speed DVD burner I have in my computer but if you’re looking for the fastest consumer DVD burners on the market, they’ll be here soon.
Lite-On will be releasing three 24X internal DVD burners starting in mid-March.
The iHAS324: 24X SATA with SmartErase, available in the middle of March.
The iHAP424: 24X PATA with SmartErase and LightScribe, available end of March.
And finally, the iHAS624: 24X SATA with SmartErase, LightScribe, and LabelTag. Available in the middle of May.
SmartErase, according to Lite-On, “provides users with a permanent solution for erasing discs with confidential data. With SmartErase, users can be sure that private and sensitive data is securely erased and cannot be recaptured.”
LabelTag is a new feature that lets you “create a label ring on the data side of any standard recordable media.” So LightScribe on top, LabelTag on bottom.
No word on pricing for any of the drives yet but the current crop of Lite-On DVD burners can be found for well under $40 in most places so the new ones shouldn’t be all that pricey.
