Good lord: World of Warcraft has 11.5 million subscribers

Blizzard’s World of Warcraft now has 11.5 million subscribers. Assuming each subscriber pays $15 per month, that’s approximately $172.5 million per month in raw revenue. That’s quite a bit of coin.

Even more impressive is that, of the 11.5 million, 4 million of them were added last month alone following the release of Lich King. That’s a lot of people foregoing actual human contact to level up their new Death Knight.

Meanwhile, the servers have been down for a good part of the day today because of extended maintenance; they’re only now (around 3:30 pm at time of writing) starting to come back online. People’s lives hang in the balance, Blizzard! How many of the 11.5 million players depend on WoW to get them through the day.
