Asus unveils the world's first Skype-certified Videophone, AiGuru SV1

A few weeks back, an AskSlashdot post asked readers for recommendations on establishing 2-way communication between the writer’s house and that of his parents. For the most part, the majority of solutions involved server racks, ip tables, and other such ventures into the depths of the uber complex. If the post had shown up a few weeks later, I probably would have mentioned ASUS’ new AiGuru SV1.

The AiGuru SV1 is the world’s first Skype certified videophone, designed for simplicity. Get it online with ethernet or WiFi (802.11b/g), punch in your Skype login info, and you’re good to go.

Its got a 7″ LCD, VGA camera and, for some reason, a 20 minute back up battery. If you lose power in your house, the modem is useless anyways. It only weighs about 4 pounds, so I suppose it’s to let you hop from outlet to outlet without having to drop the call. Also, it lets you take your videophone calls with you to the toilet, which is just a good time for everyone.

Look for it to hit the Skype.com store in October for $299.
